Two Wells (SA) Bowling Club
Smiling curator shows a bias for GrowGreen solutions.
Outcome
“We will now include Soil Reviva in our maintenance program, an application following coring will be a good way to rejuvenate our soil & handle the stressful summer months” Greg Giannikos
Background
Two Wells is situated 35km north of Adelaide. The bowling club plays in the metropolitan league and feels certain pressures to provide a playing surface that is to the high standards of the city clubs. Whilst the budgets differ greatly, Two Wells rely on volunteer labour and are to be commended on their clubs facilities.
In previous years, fungal disease has caused many issues – control costs, interruption to play and uneven surfaces. The telling signs of compaction, high traffic, salinity and struggling couch have led Greg to take an approach of getting the soil working with him and his turf.
This trial commenced in October 2009 on 1300 square metres of turf.
What we recommended
At 14 day intervals foliar applicatiion of Profert at 750ml & Xtend at 100ml in 50 litres of water.
Soil Reviva applied following coring at 5kg/100 square metres
Results achieved
Couch has shown excellent recovery and is starting to cover previously pitted areas.
Following a record heat wave in November the greens withstood the extreme heat and pulled through with ease.
To date the watering program has not been increased and no spraying for fungal disease has occurred.
The Growgreen rink is now outperforming the A green, which has had the standard fertiliser program (urea). Unplayable last season, the test rink is now the premier playing surface with the green running at 18 seconds.
Prior to Growgreen applications, issues of compaction, algae and high traffic are all evident. (photo October 16th October 2009) After 4 applications of Profert & Xtend, recovery is evident as turf is starting to dominate where previously pitting was occurring. (photo 3rd December 2009)

Our Solution
1. Relieve compaction through soil reviva application
2. Reduce disease
3. Deliver stronger, healthier turf - in particular on perimeters were foot traffic is high.
4. Increase speed of green through improved cover and maintenance regime.
5. Reduce usage of other inputs.
