| Native Grasses in Birdwood, SA | | | Extreme heat loses battle to Profert & Xtend! | | | | | Outcome | | | | | |
| Background | | | Robert Myers is a well respected breeder and grower of native grasses. His property is situated just outside Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills. Over the last 20 years Robert has introduced many varieties of native grasses to his property from both a personal and commercial perspective.
Some varieties of seed are fetching $120/kg, this has encouraged Robert to set about increasing his seed production | | | Native grasses are not receptive to high analysis fertiliser applications. With a sustainable focus on their market, it is of great interest to growers across Australia to determine whether Growgreen natural products have a positive impact on the direct environment in which native grasses grow. | | | Key Objectives
• Increased seed production and seed Maturity.
• Root development
• Plant, leaf colour.
• Improve soil quality nutrient availability
• Tolerance to heat stress and frosts. | | | | What we recommended | | | * Foliar spray – at 14 day intervals. Apply 10 ml Profert/2 Ml Xtend per 1 Litre of water. | | | * Spread Soil Reviva at 100grams per square meter. | | | | Results achieved | | | • Treated grasses are showing superior structure, colour and denser growth. | | | • Seed development is far superior on treated grasses. | | | • No sign of seed aborting in hot, dry windy weather as has occurred on untreated grasses. This equates to direct dollars and opportunity to harvest in high stress times. | | | “ The fact that I have been able to harvest the Growgreen treated areas of Red Leg grass seed after the extreme heat wave is enough to convert me”
“Neighboring farmers have been playing around with adding microbes to their soil, apparently it isn’t cheap though, The soil reviva and profert are cost effective and going by the results thus far work well”
Robert Myers. “Aussie Roots", | | |
 | | | | | "Red Leg" grass has maintained excellent seed development - approx. 85% harvested. | | Untreated "Red Leg" grass seed aborted due to hot, dry winds - no seed harvested. |
