| Background |
| The golf course is owned and managed by the Onkaparinga City Council. Being a public course, there is a high volume of patrons that obviously contribute to the wear and tear on finely manicured turf. |
| Reducing chemical inputs is a priority for superintendent Paul Cameron. Understanding the need for microbial presence and balance in his sandy soil profile is paramount. |
| Whilst fungal disease has not been a major issue on the greens, it is always a threat and by incorporating a biological programme Paul is keen to maximise the health of the bent grass and reduce the susceptibility towards outbreaks of fusarium and dollar spot. |
| The local council is encouraging staff to implement programmes where by chemical inputs are minimal and efficient water management is in place. |
| What we recommended |
| Applied Profert at 1.5 liters per ha & Xtend at 2ml per liter water (600 liter used)
Applied at 21 Day intervals
| Mains, bore and fresh water used through automatic system. Foliar spray applied through boom spray. |
| Results achieved |
| Cost per application - $23.00 (1.2 ha) |
| To maintain greens over 12 month period - $398.00 |
| Since applying GG products a record heat wave hit South Australia. 9 consecutive days over 38 degrees! With two applications of Profert and Xtend the greens stood up to the heat stress exceptionally well. |
| With an abundance of new growth resulting from late October renovations, the greens have now formed a tight knitting cover and appear to be consistent with their pace. |
