Jim Laird of Gympie uses Profert and achieves huge yield increases with reduced costs.

Background

Problems with short and curled beans which came off plants which pulled out of the ground too readily during picking, have been greatly reduced by switching to Profert. General crop health was a concern, with poor bean numbers on the bushes and generally short life at their peak.

What we recommended

Jim's previous fertiliser usage had led to a situation where his yields were unsatisfactory and he needed to improve his soil structure as well as the general health of his crops.

Results achieved

Jim now gets 5 - 6 picks of his bean crop where previously it was 2-3 picks. His pickers believe that he gets more beans with each pick and they observe that the beans are just more robust and healthy crops. They say they are getting beans that are longer and with no curled beans and they resist pulling out of the soil during picking. Advice from the markets is that the beans also last longer.

Jim has used Profert and Xtend for 3 years now and believes that as a result of this use has improved the soil in such a way that paddocks are much easier to plough and his paddocks all produce like 'new' paddocks each year.

Jim has reduced his fertiliser application per crop from 500 kg to 125 kg/ha. He now uses less than 50% of the fungicides and insecticides that he previously used. Both these cost savings are significant reductions in costs for producing his crops.
